New Car

I've been wanting to buy a new car for a while now, but I kept telling myself I needed to wait until I was through with school. But the other day, I decided to just look around and see what was out there. My cousin has owned a few RAV 4's, and loved them, so I decided to look for one.

I started talking to a dealership, and I decided I was serious enough, that I needed to visit with my cousin, who works at my credit union, to start getting approved for a loan. I decided once I had that in place, I could find a car. When I told him I was looking for a car similar to his, he mentioned that theirs was for sale! A few hours later, I had my loan approved. I had to wait a few days so they could finalize the purchase of their new vehicle.

I have loved my new car. It has auto start and heated seats, which have been so nice with this colder weather. It was also exciting to take out my first loan as a single person. I knew I could, but it was still a huge step for me. I'm grateful that I have a job that provides for my needs so I can live comfortably.

Work Presentation

Part of my job is to be over the company Health Wellness Plan. For the most part, that includes creating a monthly activity to help the employees stay active and healthy. The biggest part of the year, is in the fall, when we do our company-wide health fair. We bring in a company to do bio-metric screenings and then we have several breakout sessions that the employees rotate through. For this event, we usually have a few employees on a committee to help plan it. Its a large event, so we try to break it up into assignments. We each choose one of the breakout sessions and help schedule someone to come in for that day. Then we also have to plan giveaways and lunch. The planning starts months in advance.

The day before our health fair, one of the presenters called to cancel. We had used them in years past, so we we knew they'd do a good job. But we didn't count on them backing out completely! (For the record, it wasn't one of the presenters I lined up.) So the day before the health fair, as I'm getting back from lunch, my boss came in and asked me how I work under pressure. I thought he was kidding, so I said "pretty good." His reply was, "Good. One of the presenters just cancelled. Can you put something together?"

I thought he was kidding at first. We had been planning this for months. Who backs out the day before? So I told him to give me a few minutes and I would figure something out. Because the bio-metric people can only screen so many employees at a time, its important for us to have something going the rest of the time to keep the employees busy. Not having this session wasn't an option; we needed something.

I needed to run some stuff over to the warehouse. While I was doing that, I thought, "you like walking, why not talk about that?" So I went back to the office and told my boss I would throw something together. With just a few hours left, I went online to find some information and then threw some slides together.

I was pretty nervous that morning, especially when the CEO was in the 2nd session. I felt like I was still figuring it out. But overall, I think it went well.

I had to give my presentation 7 times. I know it was slightly different each time, but I think I got the basic idea across of how important walking is to your health. I ran a little short of the 25 minute window, but the class before me started to run over, so it still kept me on track. I had several employees tell me I did a good job, and one even told my boss he liked my presentation best, because I am a coworker and more relatable. So maybe I'll have to do it again next year.

Daxsen's 6th Birthday

The card I sent to Daxsen for his birthday.

I actually forgot to get his card in the mail the day before his birthday. So that morning, I took it to my sister and she slipped it in the mail box for me. The boys always love getting a card, so I'm glad she was able to help me out.

For his gift, I bought him a Ninjago set and then the toy set that I used for his cake. I didn't use the big swords on the cake, so I decided to wrap them as a second gift for him to open.

Despite it not being the larger version he wanted, he did love his cake. He just doesn't like to smile for pictures.

An actual smile! He loved his gift.

Ninjago Cake

This year, Daxsen wants the Ninjago toys for his birthday, and a cake to match. He picked out a pretty elaborate, 2 tiered cake, but I decided to simplify it down a bit.

He did notice that it wasn't the large one he wanted, but I explained the cake he picked out was enough to feed 100 people, but I just did the top tier because we were only feeding a few family members. He then took the toys off the cake and ran off to play, so I guess it was okay.

I thought about shoving the swords between the cake layers, but I figured if I messed it up somehow, it would be hard to repair. So we just used icing and toothpicks to set them on the back.

Its always a pleasure to make the nephews birthday cakes. Definitely one of my favorite things to do as an aunt.

Tyler's 8th Birthday

The card I mailed to Tyler for his birthday.

He had to cross his eyes like the card.

I was thrilled that Melanie asked me to make his cake. I took it over a few hours before the party. He loved it! I love that he likes to cross his eyes and pull funny faces in pictures.

When I asked what he wanted for his birthday, he said fishing stuff. I wasn't sure what to get, so I asked my cousin to help me out. He suggested these fish hook kits. I was even able to find them in the clearance section so I bought two.

He loved them! It doesn't take much to make Tyler happy. He LOVES fishing and pretty much anything else outdoors.

I wasn't able to go to the party, but Melanie took a few pictures for me. I love that 3 of the 4 nephews are in the picture. Colts grin cracks me up!

Bait Bucket - Fishing Cake

Two years ago, I made a fishing cake for Tyler. I was excited when he asked for another one this year. Since he also has a great love for dirt, I decided to do another bait type cake this year. This time, I did a bait bucket cake, complete with dirt and worms.

It was simple and I love how it turned out.

Dinosaur Museum with Valex and Daxsen

On Tuesday, my sister and I took the boys to the dinosaur museum.

I went with them a few years ago. Its fun to see how much they have grown and changed since then. The last time we were there, it seemed like they spent forever in the kids section. This year, we buzzed right through it and were more fascinated with the large fossils and sculptures.

The boys scary faces turned out so good, I had to try one too. I think they did it better than I did.

I wanted more pictures with the boys, but they are going through the stage where they don't like pictures, so I took pictures of just myself instead.

Nope, I can't even sneak a picture in with Daxsen.

I did make their mom take a picture of the 3 of us in front of the t-rex.

I didn't know about this, but apparently the community members are painting rocks and then hiding them around town. If you find one, you take a picture with it (to post to their FB page) and then you can rehide it, either in the same location or somewhere else. While at the dinosaur museum, Daxsen found this rock.

Of course with 2 boys, and only one rock, there was a pouting session for a little while. But then we found another rock and cheered up a little bit. But only a little bit because our rock was smaller. Never mind that it was prettier and smaller, which would make it harder to find, so shouldn't the glory be in that. Nope, when you are 7, bigger is better. Both rocks were found at the museum and rehid there as well.

We weren't quite ready for lunch, so we decided to go to a park and play and look for more rocks. We decided to drive out of town and check out the Remember the Maine park.

It took some looking, but I finally found a rock along the fence line. Valex was still in the car, pouting and playing on his phone. So I went and got him and took him near the rock so he could be the one to "find" it. Then he decided to rehide it in a tree.

A few months ago, I ordered a few shirts on Amazon. I thought I ordered one in red, white and black, but I must have clicked the black one twice because my order came with two. I offered to let Vanessa buy it from me so I wouldn't have to hassle with sending it back. We both laughed when we wore the same shirt.
